Joe Kubert, Star Spangled War Stories 138 1968 Cover- Considered the very best Kubert Enemy Ace Cover

1968 Original cover art to Star Spangled War Stories #138.  A Joe Kubert masterpiece.  Kubert pencils and inks.
Joe Kubert emerged from the Golden Age as a master draftsman, with a handsome, unmistakable style, reminiscent of woodcuts and sculpture. He uses intense, powerful line-work that really shines on the comics page. There is nothing he cannot draw, Kubert is a master of every genre– especially its most demanding, war. It’s in DC’s war books that he gave us his best work, creating or co-creating and drawing such works as Sgt. Rock, Enemy Ace and the Unknown Soldier.

Offered here is the cover to Star Spangled War Stories #138, pen and ink on board, art measures 15” x 10” and is in overall Very Fine condition.

Estimate: $20,000-30,000
Starting bid: $19,000

Jerry Grandenetti, Our Fighting Forces #20 1957, Rare and desirable DC wash cover

Extremely rare early DC grey tone war cover! Jerry Grandenetti pencils and Jack Adler inks. Our Fighting Forces was one of the DC Big Five war books and at this point just featured generic war stories mostly set in World War II. But when you have art by the likes of Grandenetti, Joe Kubert, Russ Heath, and Irv Novick, no DC war book could be ever considered generic! Art is in Very Fine condition, pencils and ink wash on paper, measures 18” x 13”.

Estimate: $10,000-15,000
Starting bid: $8,000

1962 Original art to splash page from Justice League of America #13

Pen and ink on paper, art measures 18” x 13” and is in overall Very Fine condition

Estimate: $10,000-$15,000

Background:
Due to the major increase in attendance and the associated demands at the San Diego Comic Con, it has become increasingly difficult to both service convention clientele  and administer a traditional auction. As a result, this year we are offering  original art, comic books and related collectibles on a “direct sale” basis at the show.

However,  there are high profile items either due to their significance or by consignor request, that will be offered on a modified auction basis. There are no buyer's premium on these items.  Zero commission to buyer!

We will accept "bids" at the show both from clients live and via email in a private auction format. Clients Interested in an individual item(s) will be apprised of the current high bids as they arrive, via email.  The highest offer received by Saturday 7-26-2008, at the assigned closing times listed below, will be declared the “winner”. To give everyone a fair opportunity, there will be a 3 minute rule in effect. Bidding will continue until 3 minutes pass with no bids on an item then the item is declared “sold”.
